Personal: Born in Ashland, Kentucky, Jim was an Army aviator flying both light planes and light helicopters. He still enjoys flying a Cessna Turbo Skylane which permits him to enjoy the beauty of the American West. He is a food and wine enthusiast, and loves to travel both in the U.S. and abroad. He enjoys and appreciates music from opera to the variety of music provided through the Bohemian Club. Although not a scientist, he is keenly interested in human evolution and the relationship between human conduct and genetic influence. Jim has three grown children, including Brian & Michelle, and is happily married to Marilyn with whom he lives in a house in San Francisco's Russian Hill neighborhood.
