In 1985 Robert T. Fries was co-counsel for the plaintiffs in Micro/Vest v. Computerland, Inc., a dispute over plaintiffs’ right to ownership of 20% of the giant computer retailer. A jury awarded plaintiffs 20% of the stock of the company (then valued at $400 million), plus $125 million punitive damages- the largest such award in California history at the time. (Affirmed on appeal: Micro/Vest Corp v. Superior Court (1984) 150 Cal. App. 3d 105).
Robert T. Fries appellate experience includes clarifying the right of review of a remand order in Clorox Co. v. U.S. Dist. Court For N.D. Cal., 756 F.2d 699 ( 9th Cir. 1985), and establishing the one-year statue of limitations for claims of tortious wrongful discharge in Barton v. Nummi (1996) 43 Cal. App.4d 1200 (later extended to 2 years in Cal Code Civil Procedure sec. 335.1).
